Team members took a few hours out of our busy schedule and had a pot luck lunch to enjoy the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st. Eclipse glasses were provided to make the experience safe and fun. Steve Ghertner participated in an amateur radio citizen science experiment to monitor the effects of the eclipse on radio communication. Residents of Twelve Twelve condominiums enjoyed the event on their rooftop, overlooking Nashville.
Residents Celebrate!
The residents of Americana Apartments were treated to complimentary ice cream sandwiches on August 2 celebrating National Ice Cream Sandwich Day! Roy Nunley, property manager, stated that the residents enjoyed sharing this fun event and that it gives a sense of appreciation.

Communities Celebrate Summer!
The Ridgeport homeowners association held a Movie Night on June 10th with the showing of Finding Dory. Additional entertainment was provided with two mermaids, Arial and Arista, leading the kids in singing and dancing. There was also face painting and a balloon artist. Refreshments were hot dogs, chips and Kona ice. To encourage attendance, raffle prizes included Barbie dolls, trucks, Star Wars toys, mermaid kitchen towels and pot holders and a large wood carved owl. The board of directors and volunteers worked diligently to provide a memorable evening for the community members. Jaye Kloss is the community association manager.
The Valley View homeowners association in Murfreesboro held a patriotic parade to celebrate July 4th. Participants of all ages enjoyed participating in the parade by walking or riding. The event included a well-attended community social, complete with fire trucks, refreshments and the crowning of Miss Valley View. This successful celebration of America’s independence was made possible by the board of directors and volunteers. Bob Welborn is the community association manager.
The VOCÈ Community Honors Legacy
Country music legend, Eddy Arnold, purchased land in south Nashville many years ago in the rolling hills on Granny White Pike as a retreat from his busy touring schedule. On these wooded acres, The VOCÈ (Italian for voice) community is being carefully developed to reflect Mr. Arnold’s love for the beauty of the area. Emphasizing minimal impact and promoting sustainability Mr. Arnold’s grandson, Shannon Pollard, acts as developer of this unique community.
Scott Ghertner, Angela Stone and Danielle Hayes recently attended an outdoor social promoting the beauty of the setting for this neighborhood. Angela Stone is the community association manager.

Investing in the professional development of Community Association Managers is a top priority at Ghertner & Company. The weekly Friday morning managers meeting provides an opportunity to learn from industry professionals, associates and/or vendors. Supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs through CajunFest
The 8th annual Cajunfest was held on Saturday, May 27th at the Amber Falls Winery in Hampshire, TN, to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Maury County. The event featured authentic Louisiana foods: boiled crawfish, jambalaya, and fried gator prepared by Cajun cooks. Bayou music and Cajun activities provided for an enjoyable atmosphere.
Ghertner and Company participated as a sponsor in support of the worthy cause. Human Resources Director, Stacy Adams, was present for the day’s activities.
Grand Opening Makes a Splash with Residents!
The Brookfield Home Owners Association celebrated the opening of their new pool pavilion with a celebratory ribbon cutting at their annual Memorial Day event. Ghertner & Company provided a congratulatory themed cake to recognize the HOA on the completion of their project. The new venue will be enjoyed for years to come by the members of the community.
The board worked hand in hand with general contractor, TLP Ventures, who was awarded the project in the fall of last year after it was approved by the City of Brentwood Planning Commission. The steering committee was comprised of board members, Amy Silvers, Chrissy Gstell and Stacey Longest.
The pavilion and new restroom facilities represent a $165,000 capital investment in the second pool facility at Brookfield. Special thanks to TLP Ventures, Gardens of Babylon, Greater Nashville Pool, Graham's Outdoor Furniture and Ghertner & Company Accounting for their assistance with the project. Maintenance Training for Board of Directors
Home Owner Association Board members participated in a well-rounded maintenance seminar that touched on a variety of topics helpful to all in attendance. Kent Knapp, Director of Ghertner Maintenance and Remodeling, presented information pertinent to all communities as they request bids on projects, know and understand the basic specifications of a job, and work with contractors. Many board members took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions about specific maintenance challenges at their communities and left with a better direction on how to work with their community leaders towards a solution.
Ghertner Maintenance and Remodeling provides a broad list of construction related services from roof replacement to concrete repair. Community improvements range from installing common area lighting to masonry work for entrances. You can request a bid by contacting your Community Association Manager.

Professional Association Provides Valuable Information
Deputy Fire Marshal Andy King from Franklin, TN, was the guest speaker at the February CAI (Community Association Institute) lunch meeting. He addressed several fire and life safety topics such as the need for fire sprinklers and smoke detectors, the use of grills and many best practices for community association managers. The Tennessee Chapter of CAI is dedicated to enhancing the quality of Community Association living through education, legal advocacy, professional development and networking opportunities.
Several Ghertner & Company managers, on site personnel and members of the leadership team were in attendance. Ghertner & Company encourages involvement in the CAI and pays for its managers to participate.
SHRM Investment Benefits Company
Stacy Adams, Director of Human Resources at Ghertner & Company, has been elected as the Tennessee Society Human Resources Management (SHRM) State Council Professional Development chairperson. In this role, she is primarily responsible for chairing the annual Strategic Leadership Conference held in April, 2017. This all-day event brings HR peers together from companies and organizations across the state for strategic seminars that offer a wide variety of relevant topics that have been approved by the accreditation certification for HR professionals.
Her leadership involvement with SHRM keeps her current with trends and best practices that she can implement in her Human Resources Director role at Ghertner & Company.
Maintenance 101 for Managers
Kent Knapp, Director of Ghertner Maintenance and Remodeling, spoke at the weekly new manager training session on January 20th. He presented a variety of construction and maintenance topics related to condominium and homeowner associations. The discussion also included identifying possible problems, trouble shooting and solutions to many of the concerns experienced at communities.
Cooperative Playground Effort
Board members, community volunteers and the community association manager of Golf View Estates Home Owners Association worked together to fund and construct a new playground in the common area for all families to enjoy. Nearly $4,000 was saved on the project as the board recruited eager and hard-working volunteers in building this new community amenity.
Ghertner & Company provided lunch for everyone as well as awarding the top volunteers who worked on the project all day with a $25.00 gift certificate each to Home Depot for their efforts.
Investing in Future Leaders
Ghertner & Company associates continue to make a positive impact in the community through some very interesting ways. Damon Morris, Community Association Manager, was recently involved in working with other pilots to help the local American Heritage Girls troop TN2237 from Columbia, TN, earn their Aviation badge. Seventeen girls participated, along with many parents, in learning about the “four forces of flight” followed by actual airplane rides.
Realizing the value of investing in the next generation, Ghertner & Company covered the cost of the fuel for the day’s events on both airplanes. Chad Frey, who helped coordinate the event as a parent shares, “We would like to thank Damon Morris, James Carbine and Ghertner & Company from the bottom of our hearts for their kindness to our community, their time spent educating our girls and hopefully instilling a love for aviation for some future aviators!”
American Heritage girls is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. The girls, ages 5 to 18 earn badges in six different frontiers of skill.
1st Annual 5k Promotes Health
Over 35 associates took the challenge of participating in Ghertner & Company’s inaugural Turkey Wobble 5k to promote better health. Held on Friday afternoon, November 18th, the event was sponsored by the company’s wellness “Champs” to give co-workers an incentive to get active, especially around the holidays. The 3.1 mile loop took walkers and runners along the Cumberland river via the MetroCenter Greenway. Ghertner & Company rewarded all those involved with a paid half day off while Humana insurance, the company’s provider, gave team members the opportunity to earn vitality points through activities such as these to spend in their online store.
Wellness Champs include a representative from many departments throughout the company. They are Stacy Adams, Rusty Baltz, Juan Carey, Steve Ghertner, Kelly Ronan, Bob Wellborn, Erica Willis, and Cassandra Watkins.
5th Annual Trade Show A Success!
Board members from Ghertner & Company managed homeowner associations attended the Fifth Annual Trade Show on Friday, November 11, 2016. Held at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel, this event featured 23 vendor booths sharing about their products and services such as landscaping, legal and financial services, pool maintenance, pest control, insurance, engineering and software. Prizes were awarded from participating vendors to Board representatives from throughout Middle Tennessee.
Many Ghertner & Company Community Association Managers (CAM) and support associates were able to participate and connect with many vendor services they utilize and also meet new vendors to learn of their products. Attendees and vendors were able to visit over a wonderful complimentary meal provided by event sponsors Scott and Steve Ghertner.
Real Time Solutions for Homeowners
Homeowners and association members often have questions or concerns that need to be answered or addressed. The Homeowner Service Center (HSC) provides an immediate contact with a “live person” that can handle their concern in a professional and quick manner instead of trying to contact the Community Association Manager (CAM). The HSC is made up of two groups that work together to provide front line support to all communities. The first consists of Homeowner Service Reps who answer initial inbound calls. The second consists of Administrative Assistants who take property specific calls and provide vital administrative support to the CAMs. Together, their efforts result in the CAMs having more quality time to devote to their associations. Seventy percent of clients’ concerns are resolved during their initial phone call to the HSC. Contacts requiring the CAM’s involvement are logged with detailed comments which allow them to return the call with a solution. Ghertner & Company realizes the value of solving issues and providing timely answers with experienced team members who engage and provide solutions.

Ridgeport Community Enjoys Holiday Fun!
Children and adults of all ages enjoyed the Halloween Bash organized by the Ridgeport Homeowner’s Association Board of Directors and community leaders. The event included inflatable bounce houses, a variety of games, catering from Moe’s Southwest Grill, raffles and other prizes. A highlight of the celebration is the costume contest where even the pets participate. Ghertner and Company encourages its communities to develop a “sense of belonging” through neighborhood events.
Monthly Team Meeting Ensures Better Service
A significant factor in Ghertner & Company’s success is the supportive team culture promoted from the leadership to all associates.
Once a month, the entire team comes together over lunch, to hear reports from a variety of department heads such as accounting, human resources, training, homeowner service center, IT, and maintenance.
This transparency allows for informed and engaged team members who can better respond to customer concerns with knowledge of how the company is committed to the client.

Giving Back to the Community through Golf Tourney
In an effort to support the charitable
work done by the John D. Floyd Charitable Foundation in Rutherford County,
Ghertner & Company participated in the annual Invitational Golf Tournament
on September 27-28, 2016 at Indian Hills Golf Club in Murfreesboro. The proceeds benefited nineteen local non-profit
agencies.
